The Dirt Maidens space is welcoming and fun for anyone of all skill levels. If your keen to improve skills and be part of a great community of women mountain bikers, get involved!
— Kim Kliska, Dirt Maidens participant

Dirt Maidens began as an event- the Dirt Maidens Challenge, which was inspired by a women’s only mountain bike race in Squamish, Canada (Hot On Your Heels- check it out!).

We knew how it felt to be intimidated at other races and created this event as a fun way to ‘dip your toe’ into racing, and challenge yourself in a supportive environment. The event was set in a fun and social atmosphere, with activities running all weekend and lots of music, laughter and sweat! Participants raced in a cross country event as well as a timed gravity race- for many this was their first taste of enduro!

Riders were timed individually but part of a team. Teams are decided at random and given a dress up theme to allow riders to recognise their teammates and allow friendships to form!

The Dirt Maidens Challenge ran successfully in 2013, 2014, 2015, and then in 2016 at Mount Buller. Each event was complimented by sold out skills clinics and well attended social rides, confirming our experience that women really want to improve their skills and ride socially. The event has been on a break since 2016 due to family and other commitments, then delayed again due to COVID-19. We are working towards another exciting event in the near future.
